Trying more things in 2024
I love those videos where people try out a thing for a period of time (usually 7-30 days) and record their experiences with them (eg1, eg2). In keeping with the energy of this LessWrong post and considering the fact that I might be a "special snowflake", here are a list of things I would like to try out this year (if I can):
- Bullet journaling for 15 days
- Waking up at 5:30am to finish work by 2pm for 15 days
- Obsessively blocking my calendar for 15 days
- Huberman workout plan from foundational fitness for 30 days
- A scheduled 1-hour block for YouTube, TikTok, and other surfing for 30 days
- Digital intermittent fasting for 15 days
- Download Rover and try to get paid to walk dogs for 30 days
- 10k steps for 15 days
- 50 pushups a day for 15 days
- Trying this notebook method for 30 days to reduce screen time
- Trying Lex Fridman's routine for a week
- Tracking my time for 7 days
- Recording myself while I'm programming for 7 days (inspiration)
- Trying the 12-week year for 84 days
- Doing animal movements every morning for 30 days (eg1, eg2, eg3, eg4)
- Typing practice for 20 minutes for 15 days
- Practicing copy-writing in Kannada (literally copying Kannada prose by hand) for 25 minutes every day for 30 days
- Practicing copy-writing good English prose (literally copying English prose by hand) for 25 minutes every day for 30 days
- Read books for 20 minutes for 30 days
- Consuming 50g of protein every day for 30 days (I barely consume 10g at this point)
- Try meditating for 30 days ("try" because failing to meditate is the point of meditation)
- Doing ANKI for 20 mins every day for 30 days
- Signing up for volunteering for 90 days (because this will probably not be a daily practice)
- Learning Hindu mantras and reciting them for 30 days (either in the morning or in the evening after I shower. Haven't thought about this yet)
- Consuming business, startups, and money podcasts and books for 30 mins for 30 days (to see if this will help me identify businesses I could start)
- Establishing and following a solid sleep routine for 30 days (inspired by this)
- 3 hours of mastering one creative craft for 15 days (I don't know what craft yet but I am thinking singing, piano, guitar, or painting)
- Eating no lunch or a very light lunch for 15 days (Because I feel extremely sleepy after lunchtime)
- Writing in this blog every single day for 30 days 😁
As I'm writing this list, I realize that there's so many things I would like to try and I probably won't get to many this year. Also, this might be the reason why I feel so stuck with choosing what to focus my attention on (see video on why having too many dreams is a bad thing for you). I'm having a hard time choosing between a billion "probably good for me" options and not discovering what will actually help me.
A couple of these things can be done in tandem. So, to again avoid subjecting myself to a infinite list of choices, I will pick the top three and go from there.
Let's see how this year goes!!
